1.Are women less or more “free” than men? – Valerio, Nina, and Bianca (MALTA)

The women and men are approximately equal in our community but in some things men are freer because the society won’t accept a woman with mistakes but it accepts a man with mistakes—because they think that men can correct their mistakes.
By Omar

I think we are in a century where there is more freedom for women than there was many years ago. Although women became much freer than before, we can still argue that women are still less free than men, especially in the Arab societies. Although there are Arab women who have careers and are very successful, but still feel that they are less free then men. I think it is because Arab men do not provide women with the feeling of equality, although they accept the idea that women should work and have careers. They believe that their main job is to take care of the house and children. People around the world are slowly accepting the idea that women are equal to men. Nowadays, there are women who are doctors, engineers, architects, etc.

Talking about the people that I know, women and men are free with no difference (women and men are the same). Women can go to clubs, wear tight clothes, bikinis, and go to parties. Men can go to clubs, go swimming, and go to parties. Women and men can work in any place they want to. I think that this “free life” isn’t available in all social classes for women (but I am not sure).
By Saji

I think in our time they are equal, because the woman in our time works just like the man. She has her own thinking and her own life, so she's not required to do anything she's not convinced of. She has her own rights, and can do whatever she wants that can benefit her, and no one can stop her from doing or getting what she wants. In some cases, the man may be freer than the woman, in that he can control things or make decisions that the woman can't, etc. Each woman and man has his or her own rights and has a good life in which it can’t be shown that the woman is less or more free than the man, and each can observe his or her life and judge for himself what is his or her value in this country.
By Fahmi

Women in Palestine are not equal to men. The Palestinian society in general is not yet open to the idea that women are equal to men in every single way. In Ramallah most of the people are open-minded and appreciate women. Many Palestinian women have opened their way to the world of men and become leaders of companies, political parties and highly effective figures in their society. These kinds of women are a very small group. The other women (the majority) are the women who are still treated as the second group in life after men. These women are being humiliated and are not speaking for what they believe because it's forbidden for them to say what is on their mind. Many women in Palestine are being neglected, but as I said, there are some women who are achieving their goal and progressing in their lives and the hope that someday women in Palestine are going to be equal to men becomes bigger and grows even more.
By Yasmeen

Women in Palestine are freer than men. Unlike men, their thoughts are developing more and more as years pass. Men stick with one thought and refuse to change it. Women are willing to give themselves the freedom they deserve, while men have the thoughts that women should be the same way they used to be many years ago. Men aren’t developing.
By Ahd

Women are less free than men. In our country they put many restrictions on women in their life. Women are not allowed to go outside and be late in the night or to have a boy friend. People in Palestine don’t give as much importance to a girl as to a boy. They do not have the same treatment like in other countries. Women don’t have the same chance to work as a man or to move like a man. That’s why families give more importance to boys than girls because boys can work and help their parents more than girls.
By Rami

Of course women should have the same rights as men. It is something obvious: We are all humans and are all the same. Therefore, men and women are all the same and must be treated equally. None of them is better than the other because they both complete each other.
By Nour

In some parts of Palestine women are treated equally with men. They have every right that a man has. In other parts men are more free than women because women are forbidden from a few things. Still, they are free to do most of the things they want. It’s not like some Arab countries where women are forbid to even go out of their houses. In most parts of Palestine, I think men are a little bit more free then women, but women are only forbidden from a very few things.
By Faris

Women in Palestine are less free than men. However, some of our traditions have changed as the years passed by. Still, the women didn't get all of their rights that they deserve. Women are treated according to their family and how they think. Most of the people look at the woman in Palestine as less than the man, but that’s not true. We mustn’t forget that women have developed. They now play a role in our journey to let Israel get out of our lovable country.
By Ahlam

In my society, women and men are treated equally. In Palestine there are no differences between women and men, black or white, all people are the same. Women can get any job that a man can get. Women can get or do anything that men can do. Women are even allowed, and they can do, muscle jobs if they want to. In addition, the jobs that men can do and women do not, are evened out with jobs that men cannot do but women can.
By Najeeb

Considering that we are living in an Arabic society (which we are proudly a part of), it’s common sense to say that men are living more freely than women in most ways. The first reason for this is the Arabic mentality which, in one way or another, gives more rights to the male than the female. The second most effective reason is the scary life we are living because of the occupation.

1.Do you believe women should have the same rights as men? – Anthony Schifano (California, USA)

I do believe that women should have the same rights as men, because they make up half the society. Sure, I do believe that women should be treated equally and have same rights as men, because the only different between women and men is their sex and biological structure.
By Lama

Of course, women and men are equal. Both are human beings that live their lives, and should live them equally. I think that nothing should prevent women from doing the same things that men do. Men can work in any field and women can too. That is my opinion—that men and women should feel equal and should be treated equal. The society needs both men and women to have a great community.
By Saher

I believe that women should have the same rights as men because God made men and made women with no differences between them except in looks. I even think that women act smarter than men in many ways. Women also can be great leaders, whether it be president, a school principal, or a company’s leader. In my opinion women should be treated the same way men are treated.
By Tarik

There is no difference between a man and a woman in Palestine. Palestine is a very safe country for women. There are no murders, no sexual abuse. Palestine has many rights for women and I think that women should have more rights than men.
By Samer

Yes, I believe men and women should have equal rights. Men and women are equal in the sense that they should have the same rights in society. They should have the right to embrace any religion they want. They should also have the freedom of speech, and the right to work. People think that women are incapable of accomplishing some jobs that require hard labor. I believe that women should be given the right to work in such jobs, but they should be given less amounts of work to do. Women also have the right to rest. Therefore, men should be more productive regarding house work and cleaning.
By Lena

Women should be equal to men in every aspect of their lives. They should have the same rights, the same treatments and the same chances, whether it is in jobs, knowledge, decisions making, etc. When God created us, he made us equal. As a proof, Adam and Eve were left in this world alone without any help, to do whatever they wanted and both of them were equal in everything in which they had nothing.
By Mona

In my opinion, God created all humans equal, including men and women. Therefore, women should have the right to do the same things men can do. Although, in the past, women lived a life of regret and punishment. Whenever a girl was born, she would be burnt to death, because people back then believed that females are a curse. Logically when girls are burnt, the female race would move towards the end, therefore, the human race will come to an end. When Islam came, it stopped the burning of females alive, and gave women their right in heritages and other social aspects.
By Nicole

I think that justice between women and men is necessary for having a successful society. Prejudice between men and women is one of the worst problems that people can face. Palestinians try to avoid this kind of prejudice by letting the women do anything they want as long as they don’t disobey their religion. The freedom for both women and men is limited, but unfortunately some cross the line for their religions. I think that this is better for the society, although some may disagree with my opinion and think that too much freedom is fine for society.
By Amro

I think that women must have the same rights as men and sometimes I am surprised by countries that do not give the women their entire rights. God created women and men in the same times so there are no differences between them. Also, some scientist said that women are smarter than men. For me, I think that if people elected a woman to be the president it is better to elect a man because women have more affection in these things.
By Khaled

Yes, I believe that women should have the same rights as men even though this doesn’t exist in my country. The men have the right to do everything and the women are supposed to follow and obey the man in what ever he says—whether he is wrong or right.
By Atallah

I believe that women should have the same rights as men. Women can do many important achievements that help the community to become better. She can work, study, teach, and has a role in building our country Palestine. She can be the same as a man or maybe better. So, the women should have the same rights as men because she is a human body that can give ideas that can work hard and give a good achievement helping our country to be better.
By Saja

Sure, women should have the same rights as men. Women are humans like the men, and they are a part of the society. They must have the same rights as men, such as working places and jobs, and the right to move through the cities without fears. I disagree with those who said that men are better and must be treated differently.
By Ahmad

God brought us to this planet as men and women. There is no difference between both. Women are people like men, and they are living on the same planet too. So women should have the same rights as men. Maybe God is a woman, no one knows about him. In my opinion, women should have the same rights as men.
By Nihad

In my way of thinking, I definitely think that women should have the same rights as men. Both of us are humans, have brains, good thinking, plans, and lots of other things. Why should we men have more rights than women? Men aren’t always right and women aren’t always wrong. Rights must be equalized between the two genders and women should have more rights than they have these days.
By Hagop

I believe that all human beings, whether men or women, should have all the rights constituted in the UN charter of Human Rights. Women all over the world are fighting against dehumanization and marginalization. I believe that women’s rights are a global struggle based on universal human rights and the rule of law. It requires all of us to unite to end traditions, practices, and laws that harm women. The struggle for women’s rights is the struggle for freedom and equality.
By Ahmad

Women are supposed to have the same equal rights as men. Women and men should be equal. There should be no difference between them, especially women. In some countries women are treated differently in a bad way and are abused. This shouldn't happen because women have their own rights and they should be treated the same as men in a good way.
By Lina

I believe that women should have the same rights as men. Men and women must be equal. Both have the same equal rights. Women should be treated as well as men—not abused and mistreated as they are in other countries where they don’t appreciate women and consider them as inferior. They should be as equal as men.
By Ameed

The women in Palestine are less free than men because of what I learn from my religion—that men can do more things than women. Every one has rights. I see now that men and women are equal because they can go with each other and do what they want.
By Naser
